Which businesses does this cover?
It covers the City of Los Angeles directory of active registered businesses, over 600,000 records across every industry and neighborhood. Each record includes the business name, address, NAICS industry, council district and the date it started at that location.
How do I search and filter?
Use the Business name / keyword field to match a name or DBA (for example "coffee" or "plumbing"), then narrow with the NAICS code, industry keyword, ZIP code, council district and registration date range. You can sort by newest registered, oldest, or business name.
How many records can I pull in one run?
You set the limit with the Max items input. Small lookups return in a single request, and large runs page through the directory automatically, so multi-thousand-record pulls are practical. For very large jobs you can supply your own free app token to lift the public rate limit.
Does every business have a DBA or mailing address?
No. Many businesses trade under their legal name and have no separate DBA, and many have no mailing address distinct from their street address. Those fields are returned as null rather than guessed.
What happens when a request fails?
If a request fails, the record carries an error message and the run finishes cleanly with whatever was already collected.
